What does the initial consultation look like?

The evalutation begins with a conversation. First of all I will want to here why you have come looking for help and what you hope I can do for you. We will then discuss the background to your current physcial complaint and look for clues as to the cause.

The conversation continues with questions about your general health and physical condition. It is common for a problem that bothers you today to have its roots in events in the past, such as an operation or accident so all these things will be discussed.

The next step is a thorough physical examination. I will start by observing you, before palpating the main spheres of the body and continue to look at simple movement such as bending forwards or rotating your head.

Once I have made a initial diagnoses, I will begin with the first treatment. This may not tackle all that you have come for, but it will set the basis for future treatments.

How does the treatment process look like?

First of all, we'll agree on three to five treatments depending on your physical complaint. If we can't see good progress within that time, then it's time to refer you on to another therapist.

All therapies and individual therapists have their strengths and weaknesses and we and Osteopathy are no different.

Follow on treatments are always one hour, the distance between them will differ between one week and four weeks depending your condition and the progress that we observe.

5

Can osteopathy prevent future issues?

Osteopathie is also a prevantative medicine. Small issues that are dealt with today prevent greater issues down the line.

This is important for all of us in maintaining health, especially as we age.
Aging has a big influence on the ability of the body to compensate for it's own misalignment. An issue that made little noticeable difference at 20, can cause great pain and discomfort at 40 and immobility at 60.

Another group that benefits greatly is sports people who put their bodies under great strain. Osteopathy can prevent injuries and keep their bodies functioning for longer.

People coming in for preventive treatments commonly come for treatments once every three months.

I'm seeing a physiotherapist, can I also see an Osteopath?

Yes please! These two treatments methods often go really well together. We'll make sure your body is freely moving and in alignment and a Physio will help you build strength and flexibility in those movements.  It is a great combination. We simply request that your treatments are on different days to let your body integrate what we have done.
